SFI & GFI: one model, two views.
The Student Formation Index (SFI) describes an individual student. The Gayle Formation Index (GFI) rolls the same evidence up to a school, district, or partner institution. Both use the same six domains and the same weights.
The SFI formula, plainly.
SFI = Σ ( (Rating ÷ 4) × Domain Weight ) × 100
Ratings are 1–4 (Emerging, Developing, Proficient, Advanced). Weights are fixed and sum to 1.0. The output is a 0–100 score, banded as Emerging (0–59) · Developing (60–74) · Proficient (75–89) · Advanced (90–100).
Cognitive Duality is composite.
CD = SI × AI (Structural Independence × Adaptive Integration). One domain, two lenses on the same underlying capability.

Certified Level 1 (Foundations) practitioners have access to the SFI Toolkit — a Quick Calculator, the K–12 rubric viewer, and the GFI/SFI Practice Gradebook & Planning Toolkit for learning, low-stakes practice, and evidence planning with fictional or properly anonymized data. The workbook is developmental and has not been independently validated for high-stakes use. Operational institutional gradebooks, persistent student records, and GFI institutional aggregation arrive with Level 2 and the institutional implementation surface.
